View PLA Technical Information
PLA (Polylactic Acid) is one of the most popular and widely used 3D printing filaments due to its ease of use, biodegradability, and low printing temperature. Made from renewable resources like cornstarch or sugarcane, PLA is an eco-friendly choice, especially favored by hobbyists and beginners for its reliability.
PLA is known for its good surface finish, minimal warping, and excellent detail accuracy, making it ideal for prototypes, decorative items, and educational projects. It does not require a heated bed, though using one can improve bed adhesion and overall print quality. PLA prints at relatively low temperatures, reducing the risk of printer jams and making it compatible with most 3D printers.
However, PLA has some limitations, including lower heat resistance and strength compared to other filaments like ABS or PETG. It can be brittle, which means prints may break or crack under stress. PLA is not ideal for functional parts exposed to high temperatures or mechanical stress but remains a versatile and easy-to-use filament for a wide range of applications.
